I grew up playing basketball in the schoolyard, winter and summer. It didnt matter how cold it got, three on three all day after school was the usual game.

And being from New York I followed all the great college teams. They included CCNY, Columbia,St Johns and the LIU Blackbirds.

St Johns was the only team in recent history that had serious winning years although they changed their name from the Redmen to the Red Storm.

Long Island University Brooklyn is in Fort Greene and among their fans are a friend, his son and my number two son. The latter two live a stone’s throw from the LIU basketball arena.

But last week the beloved Blackbirds played againsy St, Johns in the new (ish) Barclay Center, home to the Knicks and Nets. The article below tells the rest of the story:

St. John’s stunned by LIU Brooklyn in momentum-crushing thud
